WPBSA disciplinary committee inquires Mark Allen for his cheating remarks – Snooker News
Winner of the 2012 Haikou World Open snooker tournament, Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen is once again under some controversy and this time it is due to his own comments about his opponent in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship, China’s
Cao Yupeng. This is the third time in this season that the Antrim cueman has been caught in another probe.
The Northern Irishman lost his first match against Yupeng by the score line of 6-10 and after the game, accused his opponent of cheating. He used some offensive tone and said that the Chinese cueman gave a blatant push during the game which made him lose
the frame. He also said that the referee missed this act and Yupeng was saved.
He further commented that all Chinese are cheaters which really offended his opponent. However, he denied any blatant push in the game and responded that he did not remember anything of the sort. However, his words were taken seriously by the World Snooker
Chairman, Barry Hearn and he warned him of an inquiry.
Now, due to his comments about the Chinese after his match, the disciplinary committee of snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has taken notice of the matter and has sent a letter to Allen. The committee has
asked the Antrim potter to submit an answer in 14 days with hopes that he will respond accordingly.
While speaking to the World Snooker, WPBSA Chairman Jason Ferguson said, “The WPBSA is responsible for the governance of snooker worldwide and takes very seriously comments made which could be perceived to be directed at a particular nation. The Chairman
of the disciplinary committee Nigel Mawer is making further inquiries into this incident. Mark Allen will be given 14 days to respond to the letter.”
Before that, Allen was caught in another controversy when he was playing in China in the 2012 Haikou World Open. At that time, the Pistol said that the playing conditions at the Haikou arena were horrendous which offended the Chinese management and snooker
fans. Allen was charged on his words and he also apologised for his actions.
