Volleyball latest, the 2010 FIVB Club World Championship
The 2010 FIVB Club World Championship is just around the corner. The championship will officially kick off tomorrow (Wednesday, 15th December, 2010) and volleyball action will continue till 21st December, 2010.
Doha is the prestigious host of the activity. Qatar Volleyball Association has played an instrumental role in organizing this event in Doha. They are trying to make it a memorable event in the history of volleyball. All the arrangements have been set up and the participating teams have installed their bases in the city.
The 2010 Club World Championship will feature both gender competitions and this is the first time that Qatar is going to host the women’s competitions, at the Club World Championship.
The 2009 Club World Championship featured only men’s competitions and skipped the women’s part. Anyhow, this edition of Club World Championship is also a major attraction for the women club teams all over the world.
The women’s event adds a new flavour to the Club World Championship. In the past, Brazilian city, Sao Paulo, hosted the Women’s tournament in 1994. Doha is all set to accommodate the large number of volleyball enthusiast for this event.
The wonderful indoor sports arena, Al-Gharafa hall has been selected as the venue for all matches. Qatar Volleyball Federation has tried its best to meet the international standards and to facilitate the players in an extraordinary way. The management committee paid an inspection visit to the venue yesterday, in order to see the arrangements and quality of facilities. Besides, two warm-up courts have been installed next to the main match venue.
The president of Qatar Volleyball Association, Mr. Khalid Ali Al-Mawlawi, addressed the members of the Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) Control Committee and gave a briefing about the host activities. Mawlawi said, "I would like to state that FIVB officials and local organizers are here to join their respective forces together, in a real spirit of friendship and mutual cooperation, in order to turn this Championship into a very successful and exciting event".
Qatar Volleyball Association is very optimistic about the success of Club World Championship. Moreover, this part of the world is really getting popular for sports activities as the upcoming Asian Football Cup is also scheduled to be played in Doha, Qatar.
