Volleyball Russia: Recap of final showdown Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup
The top two club teams for Russia, Novosibirsk Lokomotiv and Dynamo Moscow settled for the final encounter of Russian Volleyball Cup on December 25, 2010. The thrilling final match spanned over four sets and kept the fans entertained for whole time. A large
number of volleyball enthusiasts showed up at the venue and they made their presence felt by cheering happy slogans. Both sides were fully prepared for the clash and staged a good performance. However, Novosibirsk Lokomotiv proved to be better side and seized
the title trophy by beating Dynamo Moscow with a score 3-1 (17-24, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-21).
First set
The team of Dynamo Moscow which recently returned from the 2010 FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Qatar, jumpstarted the match with their explosive hitting. They served with accuracy and precision, which helped their score in the early minutes of the
game. Yakovlev and Dante worked out 6-2 lead for Dynamo Moscow. They kept their grip on the ball up till the first technical timeout (FTT). Both teams discussed their prospects during the timeout and hit the podium again. Dynamo Moscow was ahead in the game.
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv’s squad resisted to opponents’ strike but couldn’t achieve the desired results. Dynamo Moscow continued with same energy and cruised past to 10-3. Afterwards, Lokomotiv team attacked aggressively and tried to minimize the gap of points.
They scored some points but still lagged behind. Dynamo Moscow outshone the rivals with 7-point lead at the end and secured the first set (25-17). 

Second set
The loss of first set raged up Novosibirsk Lokomotiv. They followed a different approach in second set and played more sensibly. They covered the empty spaces in their half and shunned Dynamo Moscow to score points by hitting in gaps. Gradually, Novosibirsk
Lokomotiv built a momentum and controlled the run. Dynamo Moscow, on the other hand, hit in the corners and maintained their lead in the game. Nonetheless, Novosibirsk Lokomotiv was back on track and they hindered Dynamo Moscow’s performance with good defence.
The incredible show of volleyball continued. After the second technical timeout, game entered the most crucial part. The exchange of heavy rallies created a new vibe in the game. The situation became more interesting when the score tied at 22-22. Pavlov of
Lokomotiv added quick points and broke the tie. Dynamo Moscow suffered the set back as they failed to catch up with Lokomotiv’s speed in the end. The second set slipped through the hands of Dynamo Moscow and victory graced Novosibirsk Lokomotiv. They posted
25-22 victory and levelled the game-score at 1-1.
Third set
Third set of the game staged the extreme action of two teams. The Novosibirsk Lokomotiv was pumped up with victory in second set and they played with a lot of confidence. On the other hand, Dynamo Moscow was all set to take revenge in third set. The early
phase of the third set was a see-saw battle. Novosibirsk Lokomotiv’s team put up a great fight and didn’t lose the tempo. The score quickly soared up; however no prediction could be made then. Peter Veres and Nikolay Leonenko of Dynamo Moscow developed a good
chemistry and rolled off the ball over net with perfect timing. Lokomotiv defended well and stood in the way of speedy spikes. The scoreboard once again showed a tie at 21-21. Alexander Butko of Lokomotiv raised his team’s score with a superb ace. Furthermore,
they achieved consecutive points and clinched success in third set. Dynamo Moscow lost another set in row with a margin of 4 points (21-25).
Fourth set
Novosibirsk Lokomotiv’s squad found the perfect rhythm and tone to launch their authority on competitors. They exhibited a great performance in fourth set and led the game with better score. They picked up a lead and stretched the gap of points. Dynamo Moscow
fought bravely but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat in fourth set. The team of Novosibirsk Lokomotiv marched as winners by capturing the final set of the game. They closed the fourth set at 25-21 and settled for gold-ware at the 2010 Russian Men’s Volleyball
Cup.
