Venus Williams will team up with John Isner in her debut at Hopman Cup – Tennis News
After registering unmatchable heroics in all forms of professional tennis competitions, the former world number one, Venus Williams, has decide to represent his country in the Hopman Cup. She will pair up with the current number
one American, John Isner, in the mix international event later this year. The tournament organisers have confirmed the news about Venus’ participation, along with Isner in the Hopman Cup.
The thrilling competitions will be held from 29th December 2012 to 5th of January 2013 at the hard courts of the new Perth Arena.
Venus’ younger sister, Serena Williams, have been performing this job for her country before, winning her first Hopman Cup final along with James Blake in 2003. Serena again won the championship title with Mardy Fish in 2008 but
hasn’t played the event since then. Venus will be following her younger sister’s footsteps this year and is very hopeful to bring the trophy back home this year.
"I've never been to Perth - I've never played the Hopman Cup, so for me it's going to be a wonderful experience," Venus said in a media release.” I've watched it literally every year on TV so now I get to play, I'm very excited.”
Her teammate, Isner, is also riding a sublime form this season and has broken back into the Top-10 ATP rankings. He has been the most consistent American performer from his country throughout the current professional circuit and
a lot is expected from him at the Hopman Cup campaign. Isner lifted the international mixed event last year, when he teamed up with Bethanie Mattek-Sands to bring home glory.
"My previous two partners have been very, very small," Isner of Mattek-Sands who stands 5ft 6in tall, "But Venus is a little bit taller so I'm not going to look like such a giant out there. She's obviously one of the greatest players
ever so I think our team has a good shot to do well."
Two former world number one players from Serbia, Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic, have already confirmed to team up for the Hopman Cup and they will be the toughest opponents for Venus-Isner duo.
