Ulster’s former Springboks’ fly-half, Ruan Pienaar, wins Magners League Player of the Year Award
Former Springboks’ fly-half and Ulster’s scrumhalf, Ruan Pienaar, has won the Magners League Player of the Year award, earlier today, during the annual Magners League awards dinner, hosted at Dublin. Pienaar’s impressive 119 points
from 15 games, this season, made him the best player in the Magners League 2010/2011 season.
Ulster is currently at third place in the Magners League table with 67 points.
Ulster has secured their place in the Magners League 2010/11 playoffs by defeating the Dragons by a seven-point margin. Both teams were playing their last match of the Magners League at Rodney Parade, Newport on Friday, May 6th,
2011.
The 27-year-old, Pienaar, joined Ulster in 2010. He has made 15 appearances for them so far in the season. He has exhibited exceptional skills, speed and control as he won the hearts of the fans in the Northern Hemisphere during
the season.
In his 15 appearances this season, he has scored a staggering total of 119 points. This includes four tries, nine conversions, a drop goal and 26 penalties.
His performance in the season has helped him earn the Magners League Player of the Year title for Magners League 2010/11 season.
Speaking about the occasion, Ruan Pienaar said, “It has been an unbelievable first season for me at Ulster”.
When asked about his performance at the new club in his debut year, he said, “I came to a place that I didn't know but, thanks to the team, I settled in very quickly and enjoyed myself".
Ruan Pienaar previously represented Natal Sharks and Sharks.        
He joined Natal Sharks during the 2004 season and remained with them until the end of the 2010 season. He made 32 appearances for his provincial side and scored 261 points in those games.
He made his Super Rugby debut in 2005, joining the Super Rugby franchise, Sharks. He remained with the Sharks prior to his switch to the Ulsters, earlier in the season.
Ruan Pienaar played 57 games for the Sharks and scored 140 points. Pienaar was also part of the Springboks’ team that lifted the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
He made his Springboks’ debut during the 2006 Tri Nations Series against the All Blacks. He represented Springboks in 43 international games and remained a formidable force in the international circuit. He scored 107 points while
playing for the South African International Rugby Union team.
Ulster will take on Leinster in the Magners League semifinal at the Royal Dublin Society, Dublin, on Friday, May 13th, 2011.
