Ubisoft boss says console transition a pivotal moment for video game industry – Gaming news
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes that the transition to next-generation consoles will be of utmost importance to the gaming industry.
Highlighting the importance of the new console cycle for the publishers and developers, the executive said that next-generation consoles would provide game makers to pack a punch through the deliverance of high-quality and immersive experience. The gamers
at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on June 10, would catch the first glimpse of that.
“This is a pivotal moment for the video game industry, and E3 is the opportunity for us to share our vision for the future,” Guillemot said. “We have many incredible games in development, and we're especially excited to share more on our next-gen titles,
which will deliver more connected, immersive, and interactive experiences to our fans.”
The Ubisoft boss further went on to add that after analysing the past market trends and taking their own internal estimates into consideration, the company believes that the installed base of next-generation consoles is likely to be double that of the previous
generation consoles over the same time span.
The publishers are expected to try their best to capitalise on the increased sales of consoles and consequently video games in the future, with Ubisoft admitting that it has made preparations to capitalise on the opportunity as well.
Guillemot revealed that the cross-studio collaboration structure has aided the company in getting ready to make its presence strong felt in the market upon the arrival of the high-end consoles.
Ubisoft is not the only company to think that the next-generation console sales will be much higher than the previous consoles.
Microsoft is also expecting the next-generation console sales to be quite high, predicting the figure to go beyond one billion units before reaching the end of its life cycle.
The talks about next-generation consoles have picked up ever since Sony announced its much-awaited high-end console PlayStation 4 earlier this year in February, with Microsoft unveiling its next-generation console Xbox One last week.
Both Sony and Microsoft plan on releasing their new consoles by the end of this year.
