Twins run in my family. On my fathers side his younger bro & sis are fraternal twins......?

and on my mom's side her maternal grandma had a twin sister. I think they were fraternal. Do these things matter? Could that fact determine that I will only have fraternal twins? And if so, which is more likely to occur? I take after my fathers side. Boy/Girl twins? Girl/Girl twins? It was just a thought I've had the last couple of days. Thanks in advance for answering.

Hi  Seems like a good possibility you will have twins.  From what I have read you have a good chance of fraternal twins if they are on your mom's side of the family.

Your age is also a factor.  Believe it or not the older you are your odds for having twins are higher.  

My husband and I are expecting and we are having girls, fraternal twins!!!!!  Twins do not run on either side of our families.  We are the first.  I am 39 and that is the factor the dr says.  

So, you never know.   = )

Twins can run in the family.

The increase is not huge (only 1 or 2 %).

The twin gene will pass on to you due to them being on your mothers side of the family, Fraternal is genetic, Identical aren't, they are spontaneous, and can happen to anyone.  Twins on the paternal side won't effect you at all.

Twins are a possibility but not definite. And as far as them being boy/girl, girl/girl, or boy/boy. That will be determined by the sperm. All eggs are x chromosomed, sperm are either x or y. So its always the guy that determines the s*x. But back to the twins. I have a set of twins(girls), my great grandma was a twin, hubby's aunt is a twin, and my cousin(moms sister's daughter) just had twin boys Aug 16.

SO anythings possible, but I would say you have a better chance than most!

just because twins runs in the family doenst mean u will end up having twins im a twin i have a twin brother and i didnt end up with twins thank god
