Toronto Blue Jays floor American League Central leaders Chicago White Sox 9-5 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays floored American League Central leaders Chicago White Sox 9-5 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, June 5 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Toronto’s batters made the most of available opportunities in a game that proved to be fairly one sided at the end. Colby Rasmus may be inexperienced at this level but he has all the qualities needed to become a successful hitter.
On Tuesday evening, he showed the progress he is expecting this season. Rasmus played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he went 5-5, hitting a mighty home run to help Blue Jays’ starting pitcher Ricky Romero win for the seventh time this
season.
With his solid effort against Chicago, he also raised his batting average to .247 and it will be interesting to see if he can continue to give similar results to post his career best season this year.
"I'd love to have at-bats like I did tonight. I like hitting in the two-hole. It's a good place to hit for me, the type of hitter I am. It doesn't give you a lot of time to think," Rasmus said. "The game starts and you're in there hitting. The at-bats come
real fast and there's not a lot of sitting around, which is good."
"When he came to us, there was a transition period," manager John Farrell said. "He was out of sorts, just kind of feeling his way through the organization, a new league."
With score tied at 1-1, Rasmus homered to right in the fifth to give the Blue Jays a two run lead. David Cooper also joined the part hitting a two run home run as the Blue Jays took a commanding 5-1 lead.
Jose Bautista and Kelly Johnson had an RBI single in the sixth to help Toronto take complete control of the situation. Bautista hit a sacrifice fly to right in the eighth to end the on a strong note.  Romero had an excellent outing allowing just six hits
and five runs, three earned in seven plus innings.
