Top Rookies in the National Hockey League – Part 2
Michael Grabner, New York Islanders
One of the faster players in the National Hockey League is Michael Grabner. The speed his game play can be seen from the fact that he was selected for the Faster Skater race during this All-Star weekend during the skills competition.
Not only did he beat his competitor in Taylor Hall but established a new record of becoming the becoming the only player to do so in 14.061 seconds. The New York Islanders have been struggling so far and after they gave up their goal keeper things haven’t
gotten any better. However, Grabner’s pace up front has helped him get past the opposing defnce regularly and scoring goals every now and then.
During the course of the current season, Michael Grabner has scored 17 goals and come up with 25 points out of the 49 games he has played. Grabner is among the very best in the league and with the quickness in his game; he can beat any defence and score.
He has maintained an impressive shooting percentage of 14.91 which has helped him catch the eyes of everyone around the NHL world.
He is totally changed player from what he was with the Florida Panthers. Now scoring goals every now and then, helping in defence make him an important part of the New York Islanders.
Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins
Brad Marchand is another one of the names who was relatively unknown before this season. He joined hands with the Boston Bruins after which he has become one of the faces of the Bruins who are among the top teams in the NHL currently.
Not only has he had the honour of playing alongside veteran and experienced players but his consistently scoring form has helped him being placed in the sixth spot for most goals scored by a rookie. Currently, he has scored 28 points for which the break
down is 14 through goals and 14 through assists.
Brad Marchand is one of the complete packages in the National Hockey League who along with his offensive skills provides an edge in the defence. His ability to score goals frequently alongside the fact the he can create chances for other players have helped
him a great deal to grow as a player. He is one player on whom you can rely while on the defence who has a plus-minus rating of 24 which places him in the fourth position in the league.
Before this season, Marchand was going to the NHL and then the AHL but now it finally looks that he has found a place in the Bruins squad and if things stay the same expect him to earn an automatic spot in the team for many coming seasons.
P.K. Subban, Montreal Canadiens
P.K. Subban was one of the stars of last year coming up with the brilliant play-off performance. This lined up a lot of expectations for him as his season started with the Montreal Canadiens.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to do what he had done during the course of the last season. Though the defensive player has come up with some decent performances but the level of expectations from this player hasn’t been met.
Everybody thought that he regained momentum after have a decent month of December. However, this was short lived as he couldn’t carry the form into the New Year. Out of the 49 games he has played so far, Subban has come up with 17 assists and scored six
goals.
