Did you take Spanish or French?

Did you enjoy taking that language?

Was it ever useful to you?

Did you ever travel to a country where they spoke that language?

Did you ever wish you had chosen a different language?

I am currently taking one of these languages and wishing that I had taken the other. I'm curious what others opinions are on these languages. I'll tell you which one when I pick best answer.

  1. I'm taking French and yes, I miss learning Spanish, but Spanish is too easy for me. So I'm teaching myself Spanish and learning French at school. French is fun for me, because the pronunciation is more challenging than Spanish. Plus, 95% of the 7th grade is taking Spanish this year. I want to learn Spanish because it's so useful, but I also want to speak French. Since Spanish is much easier for me to learn at home, I'm learning French at school.

French is a lot more useful than Spanish outside the U.S. All over Europe, people speak French. If you know the big three-English, French, and German, you'll do well in the business world.

Why limit yourself to one language? Spanish is easy to learn by yourself, whereas you'll need help with some of the pronunciations with French.

  2. French

    yes

    yes

    yes

    no

    Learn both...

  3. i am now i love it and yes you get a better job if you can speak another language mostly Spanish though well where i live anyways thats why im taking it.

  4. I absolutely LOVE French!! It is useful because I use it all the time with my friends :) Spanish may be useful here in the US, but French and English are the only 2 languages spoken on every continent. In that way, English and French are the languages of business and relations. I have never travelled there, but I am planning on living there someday. I am a senior in high school, and hope to use French in my career. I would never trade French for the world - it is such a beautiful language, and it resonates with me; I am not entirely sure why.

  5. I did French.  I didn't like it at the time, but that was mainly because of the teacher.  I have gone to France so it's been very useful.  If you don't like whatever language you're learning, you can always learn the other one as well outside of school.

  6. I took both Spanish and French. French since I was in grade four and Spanish last year. I enjoy(ed) taking both languages as I have a great passion for linguistics. Being a Canadian, I find French constantly useful in everyday life and even when I travel. Spanish as well. Because they both come from latin, when I found myself in Italy not knowing a word of Italy, I understood generally what they meant because of Spanish. Italian and Spanish are quite alike. I wish I took Latin, but my school doesn't offer. Whatever you're taking will definitely come in handy one way or the other. Maybe you won't reap the benefits now but you will later on. Be happy with what you're taking! Hope this helped a little.

  7. I took Spanish and French when I was in school. I didn't learn very much I don't think. I got good grades but I couldn't speak it with any natives, they didn't understand me and I didn't understand them.

Here's a website that I've been going to http://www.learn-podcast-spanish.com/spa... It's awesome for the most common situations that you'll hear native Spanish speakers talking about. I improved tons because now I know what to expect them to talk about most of the time. It actually works. I speak Spanish with a lot of people now.

That's only helpful if you like to learn Spanish though. I know that I like both languages but to each his own.

  8. I've been taking French since grade one, and I'm going into grade 11 this fall. Its certainly been a useful language, since I live in Canada and we're technically bilingual.

I took Spanish last year in grade 10 and am continuing with it this fall. It was a lot of fun and since I'm fluent in French, it came pretty easily.

The languages, although completely different, have a lot of similarities and once you pick up one the other comes pretty easily.

Whatever you do, have fun, because it's always great to broaden your horizons.
