The Irish Open: Padraig Harrington registers a good finish
The Irish Open 2012 was a good one for the triple major champion Padraig P. Harrington. He was able to finish the Open at the seventh position.
Padraig had a good tournament as, at one point, he was just two shots away from the leader. The third round of the Irish Open was not fruitful enough for him, as his score remained the same.
In the third round, the 40-year-old struck three birdies and three bogeys. His performance on the day recorded no double bogeys or eagles. As the day ended, his total score was same as before, ten-under par.
In an interview, before the final day of the Open, Padraig said that it is hard to be in the lead and easy to chase on this course.
The world 69th explained that out there on the course, if one has the lead, they become defensive and can find themselves in trouble.
On the last day, it was expected that Padraig is going to exhibit an amazing performance. On the contrary, there was nothing special from the Irish Professional golfer.
Padraig had a bad start, as he carded a bogey on the first hole. That bogey was followed by a birdie and then another one came just two holes later, on the 5th hole.
Padraig’s back nine was similar to his front nine. He carded two birdies and a bogey on it. There were no double bogeys or eagles witnessed during the Irishman’s day. The Irish-man’s score for the day was just two-under par.
Thus, Padraig’s final score was twelve-under par. As a result, he was able to finish tied seventh with David Drysdale and Craig Lee, behind Mark Foster and Mikael Lundberg.
Padraig received a prize money of 51,600 Euros in the tournament.
In an interview after the Open, Padraig said, “You might think I am the form card but we are all going to have our little demons out there”.
Harrington said there are many pros and cons for home crowd support. "You've got to use the home crowd in your favour,” he said. "You've got to let them carry you when you need to be carried and don't get carried away by them”.
Consequently, Padraig registered the highest finish among all the Irishmen in the tournament.
