Thailand’s women duo dominate the opening day of AVC Continental Beach Volleyball Cup
The 3-day AVC Continental Beach Volleyball Cup is being held in Phetchaburi, Cha-Am, Thailand. The women’s duo of Usa Tenpaksee and Jarunee Sannok from Thailand appeared in two matches on the opening day of the tournament on December 1. The home team, which
was labelled as Thailand 1, exhibited an incredible game and outplayed their competitors in both matches. Thailand opened the tournament on solid footing and home-side is determined to catch more limelight in the next matches.
The tournament has welcomed teams from Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. Each country is playing with four teams. The teams are tagged as Team 1 and Team 2 for all countries.
First match
In the first match of the day, Thailand’s Usa Tenpaksee and Jarunee Sannok clashed with Veitnam-2, which comprised of Do Thi Hau and Ngo Vo Thanh Loan. Thailand-1 proved to be better side and ousted Vietnam-2 with a score of 2-0 (21-8, 21-3).
Thailand’s team got off to a flying start in the match. They played with great temperament. The long jump serves enabled Thai team to build an early lead in the game. Usa was an expert hitter and she supplied plenty of power to her shots. Jarunee Sannok
also complimented her partner and both stormed the rival side’s defence line. They barred Vietnam’s team to a low score and forced them to play only defensive. Usa/Jarunee contributed consecutive points and stretched the gap. Vietnam’s team failed to put up
with the heavy strike of Thailand and lost the first set with big margin. Thailand posted 21-9 in the first set.
The second set also came successful for Thailand. The visitors tried hard but couldn’t penetrate the smashing volleys of Thai hitters. Vietnam performed better in second set but still couldn’t catch up with the lightning speed of Thailand. Vietnam helped
13 points, while Thailand hit the end line in 25th minute of the game. The home side bagged an easy victory against Vietnam-2.
Second match
The second match brought tough rivals for Thailand 1 in the form of Vietnam-1. The pairing of Nguyen Thi Mai and Truong Thi Yen of Vietnam proved to be resilient opponents in the game. The battle continued for solid 45 minutes and finally Thailand appeared
as the winner. They managed to defeat Vietnam by posting 2-1 (21-17, 16-21, and 15-13).
The charged up Thailand’s duo started out really well. They had the aroma of victory fresh in their minds, which provided them a competitive edge in the game. They produced confident shots and received huge applause from the local spectators. Nonetheless,
the other team hit back strongly and returned the ball with firm hands. They worked out nice under-hand shots, which gave a hard time to Thai side. Usa’s excellent digging and diving on the sand saved many points for Thailand. The home team gradually inched
its way to the end line and pulled off 25-17 victory in first set.
Vietnam’s duo reacted violently in the second set. They improved on their flaws and received the shots with great technique. The explosive spiking of Truong Thi Yen and strong defence enabled Vietnam to pick up lead in the second set. They remained consistent
in their approach and earned better status than Thailand. The home side tried to stop Vietnam but failed to hinder their performance. Vietnam claimed the second set by sending 21-16.
Third set of the game saw an exchange of speedy spikes from both sides. The game was totally in aggressive mode. Thailand angrily hit, while Vietnam replied in the same tone. However, the game entered the final phase and Thailand attacked with all its power.
Ultimately they were able to dig up victory with a margin of two points (15-13).
