Tey Seu Bock says Japanese shuttlers can upset Chinese players at the 2011 World Championships
Malaysia’s singles coach, Tey Seu Bock, hopes that Japanese shuttlers can make upsets as they have the ability to beat Chinese players in Men’s Singles category at the 2011 World Championships, starting from August 8, in the Wembley Arena, England.
Three talented shuttlers from Japan who have been playing tremendous badminton for the last few months are Kazushi Yamada, Kenichi Tago and Sho Sasaki. All these shuttlers are expected to put up a great show of world-class badminton against their Chinese
opponents in the mega event.
Seu Bock said that despite the fact that Japanese shuttlers are not consistent, still, they have the ability to put up some impressive performances in the world meet. The coach said, “We hope that they can cause some upsets in the early rounds – especially
against China – to pave an easier path for others.”
Kazushi and Sasaki are placed in the lower half of the draw in which the second seed and World Number Two, Lin Dan of China will also start his journey for the title. Sasaki has made his mark on the Chinese shuttler by beating him in the Men’s Singles second
round of the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.
However, Kenichi is placed in the same half in which the top seed and World Number One, Lee Chong Wei will fight for glory. The Japanese is expected to meet the ruling World Champion, Chen Jin of China in the third round. Kenichi defeated the same opponent
in the quarter-final of the 2010 All England Open event.
While talking about China’s strength in the Men’s Singles category at the World Championships, Tey Seu said, “China are quite strong, with four players to go after the title. We, however, depend so much on Chong Wei. So, it will be good if we have other
players to weaken China’s challenge by upsetting one or two of their players.”
The Malaysian coach is optimistic that Japanese shuttlers will deliver a wonderful performance against players from China and hopefully, the road for Chong Wei to lift the title will become easy.
