Tevez wants Torres
Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez says that the arrival of Fernando Torres at the club would be the final piece of the jigsaw.
There have been rampant rumours this summer that Torres is seeking a move away from Liverpool due to the fact that Spanish manager Rafa Benitez has now left and that the club do not have any Champions League football this season.
There are very few clubs that could match the asking price that Liverpool would be likely to set for Torres and Manchester City would be at the very top of this list.
Torres has a number of attributes that would mean he pushes his way in to the starting Manchester City team. However, many agree that it would be a very bad move for both the club and the player because of the playing staff the club already have.
Torres
Torres is a very talented and quick player who played a vital role in a World Cup winning Spain side. He has the ability to make a goal out of nothing but can also do all of the ugly things well if he is asked to do so.
Tevez has been crying out for a quality player to play up front with him at Manchester City who has a game filled with skilful little passes and touches. City do have a number of other great strikers but none can link the player in the same way that Torres can.
Torres would not have to worry too much about settling at a new club and in a new area. Geographically a move to Manchester would not hurt him too much and he should be able to cope even though he has expressed his desire to one day go back to Spain.
Tevez said: "Torres would definitely make us better. He's one of the top strikers in the world and I would love to have him as a team-mate. Last year we ended up contesting the Champions League places."
Problems
The problems of being at a club where there are simply too many players in each position have always been well documented. This is something that has to be taken in to consideration. Torres is better than most of the strikers at City but with three or four already contracted, someone will kick up a fuss.
Torres clearly has a love for Liverpool and if he does make a move away from the club at some point in the future he will only do so if it's the perfect situation. If there is discontent among some City players then it will push him away as opposed to attracting him.
Tevez added: "I have no doubt that this year we will achieve that aim and fight for the title. The club will pick up reinforcements and this will make us stronger. I know I've never regretted coming to City. It's the best decision I ever made."
Advice
City are a very strong unit because the funds the club have been given have allowed the club to move to the next level, attract better players and they are prepared for possibly their best ever season in the Premier League.
The odds on certainty for the club is that they will finish in a Champions League slot by the end of the season. They are also a very good outside bet to win the title but this will be much more difficult than they or their fans will think.
The best option is to take things match by match until you see a pattern emerging that will allow you to make a better judgement over where exactly they will end up by the end of the year.
