  1. Yes, humans are animals.  You can train a chimp to mimic human speech.  But, it will never talk with you.  Don't be fooled, chimps are not learning sign language, they are only learning a few tricks.  There are vast important differences between people and chimps.  Intelligence is only known to exist in Homo spaiens.

  2. For those that can learn sign language from English speakers, then wouldn't it be English based already?

And if you mean spoken...the difference enough effects their ability for language that we are capable of. They can't make all the same complex vocal sounds.

If our pets can learn to understand certain words, surely they can understand some of our words by hearing. They just can't speak it.

  3. the defination of animal includes us, so does the defination of ape. so far as communication the other apes simply don't have the proper anatomy in the neck area for actual speech, so sign language will have to do for now.

  4. well, if you have seen Planet of the Apes, the apes spoke english and made humans slaves.. haha..

but seriously, i agree with evirus.. their larynx may not be as sophisticated as humans.

  5. yeah the Bronx Zoos Primate exhibit has taught the Gorillas sign language and they communicate like a 4 yr old child
