Stuart Law’s decision to resign from his post as the Bangladeshi head coach came as a shock to opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal. The explosive left-hander termed the exit of Law as a big tragedy for Bangladeshi cricket.
Lamenting the loss of Law, Iqbal said, “I'm completely taken by surprise. We will miss him definitely. This is the tragedy with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 cricket: whenever we do something good, something bad happens.”
Law, the former Australian international, on Monday, April 16, announced that he will no longer be able to coach the Bangladeshi national side.
The Australian held that he does not have any issues with the board or the national players, but rather wants to spend time with his family, as he misses them immensely. Law said that he has now realised that family comes first and being with the young ones
and watching them grow up is something which is irreplaceable.
Iqbal believes that the Bangladesh cricket team and Law were finally getting along and results were depicting that. The combination could have accomplished a lot, feels Iqbal, but he respects Law’s stance and backs his decision.
The left-hander said, “The relationship between a coach and the players takes time to develop usually and with Stuey, we were almost there. Everyone was enjoying his presence in the dressing room and he was enjoying being with us as well. But family comes
first.”
Under Law’s stewardship, Bangladesh transpired from a team that may give a tough fight to an opposition that became hard to beat. The Bengali Tigers overcame the odds to reach the finals of the recently concluded Asia Cup 2012. They defeated strong contenders
for the trophy, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 by 2 runs.
Iqbal himself was a completely different batsman in the tournament. The left-hander was the driving force behind Bangladesh’s successful run. He scored 253 runs from four matches at the tournament, which included four magnificent fifties.
Iqbal accredits this transformation to Law, who according to the left-hander gave Bangladeshi players self belief.
He said, “Law gave us the belief that we can do it. And that only pumped up the players. A team like us needs the confidence and he always supported us.”
