Steve Davis believes John Higgins will find it difficult
Steve Davis believes that John Higgins will find it difficult when he returns to the game after his six month ban.
The three-time world champion is expected to return to the snooker arena in October. Higgins accepted a fine of £75,000 and a back-dated six month suspension after an independent commission ruled that the player was guilty of bringing the game into disrepute.
Higgins may expect a frosty reaction from fans and players as he returns to the game. The Scotsman was cleared of corruption, but was found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute after a video was shown of the player and his manager appearing to negotiate
fixing a match.
Higgins has denied any wrong doing, but since he didn’t report the incident the player was fined and his manager was banned from the game for life
"There's going to be a cloud over him for a while," Davis told BBC Scotland. "But, over time, everything changes and it will be forgotten eventually. The best policy, as I'm sure he's already said, is to keep his head down and to play the game he loves."
Steve Davis, the six-time world champion was speaking out about corruption within snooker and warned that gambling and corruption in the sport will not go away. Davis also spoke of players being tempted to fix games as they were likely to make more money
with snooker prize money being so low.
Davis believes that the game will never be free of allegations and spoke of his own experience. "You will always get people who don't believe what they're seeing. If you go back to 1985 and me versus Dennis Taylor in the final that ended up on the black,
there are people, who still to this day, don't believe that was true. That there was something going on. As long as you know your house is in order, that's the best you can do."
