Spain as a world power?

Can anyone tell me anything about spain as a world power???????

Back in the day (over 3 centuries ago), Spain had a tremendous colonial empire and one of the world's most potent navies. I believe Spain was at the height of its power under Philip II, who ruled in the 16th century.

You can still see the effects of Spain's empire and influence - just looked at the importance of Spanish as a global language, especially in the Western Hemisphere.

in todays time they are just a second rate power but  a few hundred years ago they owned the world
