South African cheerleader Gabriella Pasqualotto sent home from the Indian Premier League
A South African cheerleader, Gabriella Pasqualotto, from Pietermaritzburg, made the sports headlines today on May 10, 2011. She has reportedly been kicked out of the Indian Premier League, just as the tournament play-offs are about to begin.
Though the charges are not clear, it appears the former employee was dismissed over her postings as a blogger.
Gabriella, the 22-year-old cheerleader, wrote about the flirtatious and inappropriate behaviour exhibited by the IPL cricketers.
Witnessing most of the unusual antics while off-duty, the cheerleader was one of the 40 South African women chosen to go to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. She had been working with the Mumbai Indians but her stay was shortened as she was sent back in shame.
Often blogging about her personal experience, Pasqualotto also talked about the cricketers in after match parties. Though most accounts speak clearly about the immoral behavior displayed by the stars, their privacy had been disclosed.
According to many sources, she created ‘privacy concerns’ for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 players.
The former worker calls the allegation hypocritical. She insists that girls were openly warned about interacting too much with the stars to avoid distracting the focus of the players.
However, she also believes some of her colleagues were engaged in intimate relations with the cricketers.
She told the press that she was disappointed and infuriated with the way she was nudged off the roster.
“On Tuesday last week I was sent home as if I was a criminal. I was treated as if I had taken drugs or done something awful, and I was never offered an opportunity to give my side of the story,” Pasqualotto claimed.
It is believed that a cricketer and a fellow cheerleader went to the IPL chairperson in order to dislodge Pasqualotto from her position.
“It’s a joke. There were cameras everywhere at these after-parties watching what they got up to. The guys treated us like pieces of meat. We couldn’t go anywhere without the crowds mobbing us and many of the girls did not behave. But nothing I wrote was directed at any one person. I think the cricketer who complained had a guilty conscience.”
The mini celebrity has received support from her followers who think that the players need to abide by the code of conduct set by cricket boards.
Media officer for Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 (CSA), Michael Owen-Smith stated that the South African players are expected to follow the prescribed behavior code whether playing at home or abroad.
The matter is keenly followed by the press now and many believe the incident will raise concerns for the rest of the tournament.
