http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 Domestic: SuperSport Series - Cape Cobras v Lions at Cape Town – 2nd Day’s update
Lions 86/146 – Cape Cobras 341 - Lions trail by 109 runs with 3 wickets remaining
Lions trail by 109 runs with three wickers in hand against Cape Cobras, at stumps on the second day of the ongoing SuperSport Series at Newlands, Cape Town.
On Friday, December 16, 2011, Cape Cobras, resumed their first innings on the second day of play after ending the first day by posting 196 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets in response to the first innings total of 86 runs by Lions.
Cobras, eyed a massive total as they wanted to bat only once in the four-day match to win the game.
Middle-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 (37) came out to score more runs to their overnight tallies as the duo crafted a befitting resistance against Lions on the first day, after suffering an initial batting collapse.
Duminy, was the first causality of the day as he fell after smashing an exuberant innings of 63 runs. He was trapped in front of stumps by pacer Shane Burger. At the time of his demise, Cobras posted 250 runs on the board.
Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dane-Vilas-c1307 then fell without causing much trouble as they could only score one and seven runs.
Meanwhile, Ontong, after playing an astounding knock of 146 runs, found his way back to the pavilion when he was given leg-before-wicket on a delivery bowled by Burger.
Later, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RK-Kleinveldt-c2334, contributed 40 runs to help his side post a massive tally of 341 runs against Lions.
From Lions, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Burger-c89654 bagged four wickets each, and caused enough trouble for the batsmen to restrict them from amassing something around five hundred.
Coming out to bat in their second innings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 had a huge task ahead of them and needed to stay on the wicket for as long as possible in order to create a winning chance against their opponents.
On the other hand, the hosts needed to bowl-out the Lions in the remaining two days in order to take the match.
Lions, showed vulnerability in their batting line-up once again, as none of the batsmen managed to play a big innings, which restricted them on 146 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
At the moment, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cape-Cobras-c776 have a strong grip in the match and should be able to bowl-out the remaining batsmen on the third day and eventually end the match on a positive note.
