Sony Dwi Kuncoro claims Men’s Singles title at Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold – Badminton news
Sony Dwi Kuncoro, one of the most dedicated shuttlers from Indonesia, found his winning rhythm back and claimed Men’s Singles title at Indonesia Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton 2012 on Sunday, September 30, in Indonesia.
In the final battle, Sony stamped his mark over his higher ranked team-mate Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka without showing him any respect.
The fifth seeded Sony, who has been ranked at number 32 in Men’s Singles world placements, was absolutely incredible on court as he played remarkable badminton all the way to tame the fourth seeded Rumbaka in a lopsided manner.
On the other hand, the World Number 19 Rumbaka failed to continue his impressive winning run as he was unable to respond well against the flawless play of his lower ranked compatriot.
Rumbaka was helpless against the power play of Sony and bowed down to him in a one-sided fashion without even getting close on score board.
In the opening game, Sony gave a severe shock to Rumbaka by scoring 9 straight points without showing even a least amount of mercy to his country-mate.
The confused Rumbaka, on the other hand, was not ready for such a harsh treatment from his team-mate and remained struggling miles behind on score board.
Until the one-minute break in the first set, Sony was leading the score board with a huge margin of 11-2.
After the one-minute break, Sony continued playing impressive badminton by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level and easily won the first game with a stunning 21-11 margin on score board.
In the second set of this final contest, Rumbaka played better badminton and gave a good fight in opening rallies. The score reached at 6-6 when Sony started to accelerate the pace and took a good lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Sony stretched the gap on score board by playing attacking badminton and he remained successful in snatching the second set with a huge margin of 21-11.
The spirited Sony emerged as the winner in this title match against Rumbaka by a staggering 21-11 and 21-11 margin on the board.
