Denver is down 'on the flat`, but the Rockies

are right next door.

Aspen, (Ski Mecca) is only a few miles north-and-west.

There is no where in Denver.  How can you do a report on someone else's opinion?  The most popular choices would be Aspen, Vail, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek.  Locals have a variety of other favorites (Winter Park, Steamboat, Keystone, A-Basin, Copper Mountain)
