Shay Given would consider loan move
Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given has admitted that he would consider a loan move to another club if he does not start the club's first Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.
City are in a very difficult situation as their two main goalkeepers, Given and Joe Hart, have both now admitted that they would be interested in a move away from the club if they don't start the season as number one.
Given is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League but the club must have realised there would be problems down the road when they signed him. City have been reluctant to sell Joe Hart, who went to the World Cup with England.
A loan move for Given would have a number of benefits although there are clearly many problems in the making for Manchester City.
Benefits of a loan deal
A loan deal away from Manchester City would allow Given to join a club where he would be number one and where he would play in every game. This would allow him to maintain his physical fitness and match consistency.
It would give him a release as he may already be getting very annoyed at Manchester City. He is a goalkeeper who wants to be the out and out number one at a football club and second to no one else.
Therefore a potential move would let him release any anger and friction that he is currently feeling. He would then eventually go back to City as a more relaxed and more satisfied individual.
He said: "I think we are both at a stage where we need to be playing football. If I don't start then I will sit down with the club next week and see where my future lies, and maybe it will be vice-versa with Joe. We both feel that we need to be playing. I'm at a stage where I need to be playing, I'm 34 and I haven't got millions of years left to play football."
Betting advice
City are very lucky in the respect that regardless of who they choose to start against Spurs, they will have a top quality goalkeeper behind the defence. If you were going to back them before then don't let this news about Given put you off.
If Given does go to another club then he will give that club a much better chance of conceding fewer goals. This will mean they stand a better chance of winning more games.
