Sergio Perez says he expects more pressure at McLaren – Formula 1 news
Sergio Perez has said that he is expecting more and more pressure after joining McLaren for the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Perez has been considered as one of the most talented young drivers in the sport. Furthermore, he has impressed everyone with his amazing performance at Sauber during the last season in which he claimed three podium finishes.
Even though, he failed to score points with consistency in the preceding season, but he still managed to secure a race seat at McLaren for this year.
The Mexican driver has replaced Lewis Hamilton who has moved to Mercedes as Michael Schumacher’s replacement. On the other hand, the seven-time world champion has taken retirement from F1.
The 22-year-old expressed great delight on his arrival at the British squad and is aiming to win the title in this season. However, he has asserted that he is feeling more pressure at McLaren which is one of the best teams in the sport.
“When you come into McLaren you are expected to win every race because you are in the best team,” Perez said. “If you are not winning there is something wrong. In that respect I expect more and more pressure but as a driver you are lucky to be in the best
team and to win races and championships.”
Perez secured 10th place finish in the drivers’ championship last year. Besides, he said that he is very happy with his overall performance in 2012 and is targeting to deliver his best in this season.
“My main target from last year was to secure a drive at a top team and I had a very good year, some ups and downs, but overall I finished 10th and it gave me opportunity to come into the best team in F1,” he added.
All the contenders are looking forward to make the most out of the winter testing this year. It will be interesting to see whether the Woking based team will be able to resolve the technical issues which it faced during the last season and how Jenson Button
performs alongside his new teammate in this season.
