I'm a sophomore in high school, and have finally decided that after hs i want to be either a wedding planner or design wedding dresses and have my own boutique.

what schools are the best for studying event planning/ business management and fashion designing?

do i go to a 4 year college for business and then go to other classes for fashion design? (or other classes for event planning)

If someone could help me and direct me in some sort of path, id really appreciate it!

  1. You could do a bachelors or an associates in business, with a minor in fashion design, or a major in fashion design with a minor in business. What you major in depends on what you plan to do for a career. If you plan to design gowns, you really need to major in fashion design. If you plan to be more on the business end of things, then you'd major in business or related.

You'd want to do an internship in your field while you study.

In fact, you might be able to start on this path now, by trying to get a job in a local bridal shop doing anything. Start low level, it doesn't matter - you're there to learn the business. You could also try to get a job in a facility where weddings/receptions are held, to get exposure to the wedding business in general (for the business/event planning careers you're thinking of.) I'm thinking nicer restaurants, hotels, banquet halls, etc. You'll probably start low level, maybe in food service, but it doesn't matter. You're gaining exposure to the field, building toward your future. In this way, by the time you're applying for college, you'll both have a real world resume to back up your application, and probably have a better idea for whether you want to do fashion design, event planning, or some other aspect of the wedding business.

Since you're thinking maybe fashion design, please start to take every art class your school has, and also take home ec/sewing, if they offer it. You'll need the art to apply to colleges, and the sewing will be a major advantage re: your coursework. You also want to take the general college prep classes at your school.
