San Diego Chargers defeat struggling Jacksonville Jaguars to end 6-game losing streak – NFL Recap
The San Diego Chargers finally found their winning ways with a 38-14 win over their struggling hosts Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.
The Chargers, who at 5-7 are two games behind the Denver and Oakland in the American Football Conference (AFC) west division in their chase for playoffs, had lost six consecutive games.
The three times pro-bowl side however found their lost form to topple the crises hit Jaguars. The best play came from the Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers. Rivers' game had remained inconsiderable with his form not up to his
potential and the mark.
He however finally found the click and performed the wonder he is known for. He threw for total 294 yards in addition of three touchdowns.
"It's been a rough six weeks," Rivers said. "I haven't put a complete game together, but I don't care about the numbers. I just want to win."
His side had managed to score five of their first drives, a remarkable achievement against the Jaguars.
"That's the type of chemistry coming into this season we knew we had," tight end Antonio Gates said. "We stayed on course despite what we've been through these last six weeks. That we were able to get a win tonight speaks volumes
for this team."
The loss added to the troubles that the Jaguars had been going through over past couple of weeks. This was their first post-Del Rio game which ended Jaguars performance at where he had left.
The side, which is already without their three quarterbacks, Derek Cox, Will Middleton and Rashean Mathis, could not come together to stage some fight back.
Their interim coach Mel Tucker said that there should not be any excuse to justify their poor show off on Monday."No excuses here," Tucker said. "We won't allow ourselves to go down that road."
The best part of the game for the Jaguars was the backing of their deal with Pakistan-born American businessman Shahid Khan. They wore T-Shirts with words ‘Yes We Khan’ inscribed on them, while many put on fake moustache to emulate
the new owner. Mr Khan sports big moustache.
They also gave a standing applause to Jaguars’ outgoing owner Wayne Weaver and his wife when they appeared on the screen in the Jaguars stadium.
