Ruby Walsh to ride The Midnight Club in the Grand National meeting – Horse Racing Update
The talented and champion jockey, Ruby Walsh is all set to claim the National meeting for the third time, as he will be taking the charge of the winner colt The Midnight Club for the famed trainer Willie Mullins. It has now been confirmed that Walsh will
be partnering with the race’s ante-post favourite at the Aintree race-course.
John Smith’s Grand National is one of the most flaunted events of the sport and the champion jockey has made successful trips to the meeting on two occasions before this year’s edition of the mega event. He claimed this event on the race-horses Hedgehunter
and then Papillon. As for the National meeting this season, he had the option to ride either The Midnight Club or Niche Market. The former race-horse trains under the care of champion trainer Willie Mullins, while the latter is the trainee of Paul Nicholls.
It has also been reported that the jockey Harry Skelton has been confirmed for Niche Market, who is also the winner of 2009 edition of the Irish National meeting.
Mullins is saddling The Midnight Club as an 8-1 favourite. Talking to the correspondents about his decision to engage Ruby Walsh, Mullins was reportedly said, “Ruby rang me today to say that he will ride The Midnight Club.”
He further went on to say, “With Paul Townend and Emmet Mullins out of action, I will work him and the rest of the National horses during the week to firm up riding plans for the whole team.”
Patrick, who is also the son of Mullins, was already booked for the colt Jackie’s Dooney’s Gate. On the other hand, the race-horses Ballytrim, Arbor Supreme, Our Monty and Scotirish are left without any riders. Under these circumstances, the other trainee
of Mullins, Pomme Tiepy will not be taking part in the Grand National meeting.
Harry Skelton will be seen aboard Niche Market, as the partnership proved to be a success in the Fairyhouse meeting, the fans and connections are hopeful that the duo will perform well at Aintree in April.
