Rex Ryan to feel the heat if New York Jets lose to New York Giants – NFL News
Rex Ryan knows it and knows it well that the guns will be turned on him in case the New York Jets lose to the New York Giants.
Intensity in the upcoming clash between the two decades long rivals flared up with Ryan boasting around that his team was the better side and will come out victorious this Saturday. Will the Jets live up to his expectation or will
he face a humiliation this Saturday is still to be decided but Ryan is already measuring the repercussion of his statements.
“If we lose, it’s coming right down on me, and I can handle it. I hope I don’t have to.” Ryan said.
It shows all the determination and courage needed to stand up to ones words. However the boast went a big way to ahead. By making claims of being the “big brother” in the city, Ryan was either venting his frustrations over Sunday’s
humiliating 45-19 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles or wanted to muster confidence his players.
Whatever be the reason, Ryan clearly had the tone of superiority in his press conference where he boasted to be the better football team for the coming ten years. However he wasn’t short of respect for the Giants.
“I recognize the rich tradition of Giant football. There’s no question. I’m not trying to take a run at the Giants or a shot at the Giants. I want to be the best team in the National Football League.” Ryan said.
It seems walking out with a defeat from MetLife Stadium will not be easy task for Ryan after he was stubborn enough to say that he had the “courage” to say Jets was a better side.
All the better than, the Saturday’s game is all that Ryan has to forfeit on. If the Jets manage a win that day followed by another win in the next game, the Jets will sure make it to the playoffs but a loss will severely jeopardize
their post season chances. So Ryan could be putting everything he has at risk.
Ryan is known for shifting pressure on to himself in order to save his team and all this boasting around may just be an another tactic aimed at diverting Jets attention from last Sunday’s loss.
The rivalry between the Giants and Jets dates back to decades and history seems to favour the Giants. The two rivals have clashed 11 times in the past of which the Giants have won seven times.
