Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren blamed by Human Rights organisation for agreeing on Bahrain GP: Formula 1
Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren have been blamed by an international Human Rights organisation, Avaaz, of participating in the manslaughter that is going on in Bahrain since the beginning of 2011.
Avaaz is playing a leading role in protecting the basic Human Rights in Bahrain and had previously stated that Formula 1 should not come to Bahrain in protest of the activities done by the Bahraini armed forces.
However, after the decision to reinstate Bahrain was finalised in Barcelona and Formula One Teams Association agreed on the decision, Avaaz has said that Formula 1 teams are deliberately turning their eyes away from the killings to save their profit in the
game.
The director of Avaaz, Alex Wilks stated, “F1, plus Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, and every other team will be directly linked with a bloody crackdown that's ruined the lives of hundreds of innocent people. The race will happen in a country where government
troops continue to shoot and arrest peaceful protesters. Formula One's decision is a kick in the teeth for the Bahraini people.”
However, the World Motor Sport Council meeting held in Barcelona was also attended by the National Institute of Human Rights representative Tariq Al Saffar. In addition, the statement from the WMSC read that the decision was taken after the King of Bahrain
promised reconciliation.
However, the statement from the Avaaz foundation tells a different story of Bahrain.
Nevertheless, the race will take the place of the Indian Grand Prix in the month of October 2011 while the Indian officials will get some more time to build their circuit. The 2011 Formula 1 season now officially has 20 races which makes it the longest ever.
The race is being reinstated but the statements from the Human Rights activists may tell a different story come October. Initially the teams were against the race being reinstated in Bahrain but now after the decision of the WMSC, all teams seem happy to
race there.
