Ramsey County unanimously approves land purchase for new Vikings Stadium – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings have finally gotten approval from Ramsey County officials who voted unanimously to approve the purchase of land for their planned new stadium in Arden Hills.
The council has approved a land purchase agreement of 430 acres with the council set to purchase the former Army Ammunition site for $ 28.5 million if the state finds the funds necessary to go through with the purchase. The council
can however cancel the deal by August 1st, 2011 without paying any penalties.
The site is the largest undeveloped piece of land near the twin cities and the Vikings look to build a $ 1.1 billion state of the art stadium at the site that will provide a complete match day experience for fans. Vikings owner
Zygi Wilf has pledged to provide $ 400 million from his own pocket for the stadium and requires a partial subsidy from the state government which looks likely to be provided.
Vikings’ lease of the Mall of America Metrodome will end at the end of the current season with the Vikings lobbying state officials to start approval plans for the new stadium. The Vikings also have other sites in Minneapolis who
are more than eager to get their very own National Football League franchise.
The Vikings have also launched an advertising campaign to provide the facts and figures and other benefits that the people of Minnesota and fans could get with the development of the new stadium. The campaign was launched during
Monday night’s encounter between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers.
Vikings spokesman Jeff Anderson said “the campaign will arm fans and supporters with the facts” and that they had purchased significant advertising space.
The campaign would run for several weeks with advertising on a variety of mediums such as television, radio, print and online to provide the fans with the full picture.
The good news of the land purchase agreement will however be overshadowed in the short term by the fact that the Vikings remain bottom of the National Football Conference North Division with just two wins and faced a 45-7 drubbing
at the hands of Green Bay Packers on Monday.
