Queensland v Victoria - Sheffield Shield - 6th Match - 1st Day – Live Score and Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 149 v Victoria 103/6 (36.0 ov) - Victoria trail by 46 runs with 4 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
At stumps on Wednesday, on the first day of the four-day Sheffield Shield match between Queensland and Victoria, the latter, trail by 46 runs with four wickets in hand after they scored 103 in reply to Queensland’s first innings score of 149, at Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane.
Queensland after being asked to bat first, failed to post a mammoth total on the board, and while the game is a four-day contest, it certainly seemed like a 50 overs match, where Queensland batsmen and Victoria bowlers looked in a hurry to end the game well before the final day.
Openers AW http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 trashed the party by grabbing the wicket of Robinson on 13.
With his opener back in the pavilion, it was time for UT Khawaja to come in the middle. However, the second-wicket partnership could take the score to only 43 before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Justin-Lee-Langer-c69712 Pattinson sent Townsend back. The batsman fell after scoring 21 runs.
Khawaja was then joined by PJ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stewart-Jonathan-Walters-c91389, but this partnership could take the score to only 55 before the latter fell after scoring only four runs.
This was the time when Victoria started tightening the screws around their opposition, gradually squeezing the flow of runs.
With 85 runs on the board, Queensland saw Khawaja lose his wicket to Siddle after hammering 28 runs off 66 deliveries.
A run later, JA http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Burns-c48842, was given leg before wicket on a delivery bowled by Siddle. The batsman found his way off the field with 11 runs to his name.
It were then troubling times for Queensland, as the batsmen kept losing wickets without putting much of a fight.
Finally, Victoria bowled out their opposition in 47.3 overs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JW-Hastings-c1752 taking four, and Siddle nabbing three wickets.
Victoria needed a calm start to their innings, however, they had lost two wickets by the time they put 11 runs on the board.
Queensland’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dawid-Malan-c1344 McDermott, LW Feldman and BCJ Cutting all shared two wickets each to restrict Victoria from taking a lead by the end of the day.
