Premier League Weekend Preview (Part 1)
After perhaps the biggest result in their recent history, Tottenham Hotspurs will now turn their attention towards the English Premier League where they kick off weekend’s proceedings with a trip to Bolton Wanderers but the match of the weekend
is the clash between Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool and Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea.
The action on the weekend will begin in Bolton at the Reebok stadium where the trotters will host Spurs and the London side will be hoping to carry on the momentum from their euphoric win over reigning European champions, Inter Milan.
Harry Redknapp’s side is currently fifth in the league table after they missed the chance to go third a week before losing 2-0 at Old Trafford. A win in Bolton will help Spurs pile on the pressure on Roberto Mancini as City do not play their
match until Sunday and Spurs have a chance of leapfrogging them into 3rd place.
Bolton, on the other hand, are 11th in the table and after having managed just one victory in their last 8 outings, they will be hoping that they can contain the menace of Gareth Bale who is playing in the form of his life. Judging
by both teams' forms, one can easily say that there will be goals in this fixture as Spurs have not kept a clean sheet since the opening day of the season while Bolton have failed to keep their opposition out for 18 matches now.
Liverpool FC are on a fine run of form and only last week, they climbed out of the relegation zone with a last gasp winner by Maxi Rodriguez. After a hat trick by Steven Gerrard in the Europa League, they will be full of confidence going into the match against
the league leaders at Stamford Bridge.
Dirk Kuyt is expected to make a comeback from injury while Lampard is still out but the Reds face a stiff test as Chelsea have been firing on all cylinders this season. It will take a mighty performance if Liverpool are to beat Chelsea at their own den.
Manchester United will host Mick McCarthy’s wolves at Old Trafford on Saturday and after two wins last season and their recent run of form in the league, Manchester United will be mighty confident of all three points in the game.
United are unbeaten in their last 22 games and with Wolves visiting the Theatre of Dreams, the record doesn't look to be under severe threat but United have to be careful as it was dropped points against lesser sides last season that had cost them the title.
West Ham are currently at the bottom of the table and face the danger of being rooted there if they do not come up with the goods tonight at Birmingham. The Hammers capitulated on last time out when they lost to Newcastle United and there will be no room
for error for them if they are to climb out of the relegation zone.
Everton is a team that has been in the ascendancy in recent weeks and they will be hoping to continue their fine form when they make the trip to Bloomfield Road to take on surprise package Blackpool.
Everton are currently 8th in the table and only two points behind Spurs while Blackpool will have an agenda of their own as they themselves are just one place below Everton.
Last time out, the Seasiders lost to West Brom in a thrilling encounter but they will be hoping that they can claim another high profile scalp this weekend when David Moyes’ side visits their home town.
It would be an exciting weekend in the Premier League but all eyes will be on the big clash in London.
