Question:

Picture framing issues?

I have an old picture of my mom from when she was a little girl and I would like to get a nice new frame for it with some matting. But I'm not 100% sure how to go about doing it. I don't mind doing it myself seeing as how it would be pretty expensive at Michael's I believe. The picture itself is 20''x16'' (tall and wide respectively). I want to add some matting to it because on the very edge of the picture there is a little bit of damage I believe from tape. My question is how big should I make the matt and how big should the frame be? I know that a lot of that is up to me I guess, but I need some advice. I only want the matt to cover up 3/4''-1''. Any advice on how to go about doing this or a website that I can get this stuff for fairly cheap? Thanks

  1. you can take the picture to -perhaps Michael's buy the frame and the matting to match there-the sales staff are very helpful-and you can put it into the frame at home.

  2. Is there a Hobby Lobby near you ?  They have coupons in every sunday paper for 40% off. So if you have a couple weeks, you get get both the frame and mat(s) for a great deal. How bad is the damage? Taking up an inch on each side seems to be a lot of the picture lost. It is very expensive to have things framed. I have a friend who works at a frame shop, and it still cost me around 100 bucks to have my college diploma framed. WITH A GENEROUS DISCOUNT! At anyrate, good luck!!

  3. You may be able to use one of Michael's coupons in the  framing section.

Take the picture in and find out how much a matte would be for the size you need to fit in a 20x24 frame..  Then you can find a frame 20x 24 to fit picture in (with another coupon)

Good luck.  This is worth spending a little money on.
