Hello, my Boxer was in her 10 day of heat 3 weeks ago, i was woken up by a few bangs, as my female Boxer broke two baby gates to get to the male, as far as i kno i caught them in time (i hope), the male is only 8 months old.

She's been sleeping alot

being sick

bigger nips

could this be a phantom pregnancy?

How could i tell?

Please feel free to ask any Q's, thanks.

  1. A baby gate...are you kidding? And why was you male not fixed? Its possible but the only way to be sure is to go to the vet. And yes you should spay her. If you can't handle something as simple as properly keeping your two animal separated by a DOOR and not a baby gate then can you really handle a litter?

If this isn't her first heat she should have been spayed to begin with. If this is her first heat she NEEDS to be spayed.

  2. was they tied together? and if so then it might be a real pregnancy,

  3. I'd bring her in for a good old fashioned exam...  If you don't want the pups, I would do a prenatal hystorectomy.

  4. First of all, NEVER seperate two dogs while they are mating. It WILL hurt the male... what happens is the female's organs "clamp" onto the male's p***s. She doesn't surrender the p***s until she is done. So, separating them prematurely is certain problems for the male. If you do not want the pups, then you should have one of them fixed.

The best way to tell if a dog is pregnant is to take her to the vet to get an examination. They will also make sure she gets all of the pre-natal care she needs. Terminating the prenancy is up to you. However, I believe that you are the one that made the mistake and the puppies should not suffer because of that. (I'm sure you don't want to hear that.) If she is not pregnant, there may be something else wrong with her. Either way, she should get checked out.

  5. You didn't say how long it has been since she was with the other male so...Fertilization of the eggs occurs in the oviducts of the female dog. Implantation of the zygotes (one stage after an egg) occurs at about 18 days after mating. With is there is formation of small swellings along the uterine horns by about 21 days. These are palpable (you can feel them) assuming that she will let you. Fetal growth is rapid during the early stages of pregnancy and these swellings will double in diameter every 7 days. After 35-38 days though, these swellings will become harder to palpitate (feel) until late pregnancy.

I would recommend either taking her to the vet for a pregnancy test or wait to feel for these swellings. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.
