Peter Hoeg Gade: Denmark's veteran shuttler – Badminton news
Denmark’s ace veteran shuttler, Peter Hoeg Gade, who is currently ranked at Number Five in the Men’s Singles world rankings, is famous for being a true sportsman in the arena of badminton throughout the world.
The 34-year-old Peter Gade, who is the former World Number One, has always been enjoying a spot in the top ten shuttlers, since 1999. Gade is the most celebrated shuttler in Europe, who is known for his untiring hard work and dedication towards the game.
He is the only shuttler who is in the top ten players even in his thirties. Last year, he achieved second position in the world rankings by playing tremendous badminton.
Peter Gade said, “I’m used to going on court with everyone expecting me to win. If I don’t win, it’s a disappointment.”
While talking about the technical and tactical aspects of the game, Gade said, “At some point, you learn how to deal with the pressure. You learn that if you’re going to beat the best guys around, like Taufik [Hidayat] and Lin Dan, you have to be in the
right state of mind.”
He further added, “That’s the starting point and it takes a lot of experience. I’m an old guy now, so I’ve got that experience.”
In last week’s Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, Peter Gade defeated World Number Three, Indonesia’s Taufik Hidayat, in the quarter-final of the event without facing any considerable trouble.
In the semi-final showdown, Peter Gade tamed Japan’s Sho Sasaki, who made the biggest upset of the event by beating China’s Lin Dan in the Men’s Singles second round. Gade played perfect badminton against the stubborn Japanese and defeated him in straight
games with a comfortable margin.
In the final of the Indonesia Open, Peter Gade failed to deliver the goods against World Number One, Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who proved too strong for the Danish. However, playing the final in the presence of all top athletes is something which is rewarding
for a player who is in his mid-thirties.
