Papua New Guinea defeat Hong Kong by 43 runs in ICC World Cricket League Division Two
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002 (PNG) defeated Hong Kong by 43 runs in their ICC World Cricket League Division Two match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. PNG scored 217 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their innings and bowled out the Asian team
for 174 in 46.1 overs.
PNG’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rarva-Dikana-c84041 chose to bat first after winning the toss. The wicket was good for batting, but the ball didn’t come onto the bat once it got older. However, Dikana’s men managed to post a challenging target.
The PNG innings got off to a poor start, as they lost a couple of early wickets. Opener Tony Ura and first-drop player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kila-Pala-c71447 were sent back to the pavilion after adding nine runs each to the total.
However, opening batsman Christopher Kent played sensibly along with Asad Vala. The pair didn’t take any risks and guided the team’s total above fifty with a 41-run stand for the third wicket. Asad got out after scoring 24 runs from 47 balls with the help
of three fours, leaving his side at 67 for three.
Middle-order batsman Mahuru Dai walked out to the middle and played aggressively. He complemented Kent very nicely and the pair put together 75 runs for the fourth wicket.
It seemed as if the game was getting away from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hong-Kong-c2919 before the Asian team struck with some quick wickets. Both Kent and Dai were dismissed after scoring 59 and 43 respectively, leaving their team in trouble at 161 for five.
Although the PNG lower order failed to score too many runs in the death overs, they managed to bat until the end, guiding their team to 217.
Hong Kong’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Najeeb-Amar-c78525 gave away a few runs in his spell of nine overs, but managed to pick four wickets in the match.
Najeeb also proved to be handy with the bat, as he scored a quick fire 35 runs off 24 balls at the top of the order. He struck five fours and one six in his cameo, but gave his wicket away after that.
The fall of Hong Kong’s captain triggered a batting collapse, as wickets started to tumble. First-drop Hussain Butt got a solid start to his innings but he failed to capitalise, getting out on 37 off 67 balls. With six wickets down for 119 runs, it seemed
as if the match was over for the Asians.
However, middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nizakat-Khan-c79759 fought back with a solid 55 runs from 83 balls. He played brilliantly but failed to guide his side to victory, as they were bowled out in the 47th over.
