Pakistan born Imran Tahir makes his Test debut for South Africa – Cricket News Update
Pakistani born leg-spinner, Imran Tahir, has made his Test debut for South Africa in the first Test of the two match series at Cape Town. Quite ironically, the leg-spinner has played most of his cricket in Pakistan and came through the ranks of junior cricket
in his native country.
Tahir burst onto the scene of International cricket during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup 2011, where he bamboozled even the best of the batsmen with his variety of leg-spinners and wrong-uns.
South Africa is historically not known for producing quality spin bowlers and this is the reason why Tahir did not find it hard to break into the Proteas line-up, since getting the citizenship of South Africa earlier this year.
The leg-spinner made his first-class debut in 1996-97 in Pakistan and since then he has represented a number of teams in the domestic cricket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Tahir claimed that he is extremely hungry for International cricket as he had to wait for a long time. Unfortunately, he never got the opportunity to play for Pakistan because of the ignorance of the selectors.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 said, "I have a lot of a hunger because it took me 14 years of first-class cricket to become an international cricketer."
The leg-spinner has a magnificent first-class record as he has taken 585 scalps in 138 first-class matches so far, at an impressive average of 25.18 runs per wicket, which is absolutely superb for a spin bowler.
Tahir expressed that it is extremely difficult for a spinner to adjust in the South African conditions, especially when he has played most of his cricket in the sub-continent. He believes that a spinner should bowl faster in South Africa but not with a flat
trajectory.
"I had to bowl on such hard wickets, completely different to Pakistan. When I first started I wanted to bowl slowly, like I have been doing all my life. I got hit everywhere, and I thought I am not good enough to play in South Africa because it's so easy
for them to play against me. Then I started working with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-Alexander-Pybus-c84844 and learnt how to bowl in South Africa,” the leg-spinner added.
