Padraig Harrington finishes off his European Tour in style
Before coming to Dubai, Padraig Harrington had a week to forget what happened at the Hong Kong Open. Harrington’s performance at the Hong Kong Open was nothing less than pathetic as he missed the cut.
It was not the best of preparations for the much anticipated DP World Tour Championship, as he could not play to his potential in Hong Kong.
That was mainly due to the illness from which he was suffering.
"I was suffering from 'flu all week - I'm not saying that this had a major effect on my play but it certainly didn't help," wrote Harrington on his website.
Harrington wanted to finish the season in the style and that he did by putting up a decent performance at the DP World Tour Championship.
“I am moving onto Dubai and won't be doing anything different to any other week.  It’s my last tournament of the year and I am going there looking to put in a strong performance so as to finish the year on a high”.
The Irishman carded 67, 71, 68, and 68 over the course of four days to finish at 14-under for the tournament, securing a T9 finish.
It was a performance which was desperately needed for Padraig to regain his confidence. Although he could not shoot bogey free rounds over the duration of four days, but shooting in the 60s must have felt good.
The world number 59 was 34 on the Race to Dubai standings and the T9 finish at the Jumeirah Golf Estates is something to be proud off.
Padraig Harrington’s fourth round was pretty eventful, as he shot five birdies, an eagle, a bogey and a double bogey to card an interesting round of 68.
Harrington was hot on the front nine but he faltered badly on the back nine on Sunday. He carded four birdies on the front nine but the moment he turned over, things started to change for the Irishman.
He carded a double bogey on the 10th followed by a bogey on the 11th. However, he turned things around on the 15th and 18th as he carded a birdie and a superb eagle on the respective holes.
