Pachattack cross-entered in the Obeah Stake and the All Along Stakes
Flaxman Holdings Ltd. 6-year-old mare, Pachattack’s real goal is to run in the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap on 21 July, 2012, at Delaware Park, and with time in hand, trainer Graham Motion wants her ready with a local prep race for the Del Cap under her belt.
Graham Motion isn’t playing it simple, which is evident by his decision of cross-entering, Pachattack, in the Grade 3 All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs at about 1 1/8 miles on turf, and the Grade 3 Obeah Stakes over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the venue’s dirt track, as both races are set to go underway on 16 June, 2012.
“Whether she runs in the Obeah Stakes or not, she is still a strong possibility for the Delaware Handicap or the Robert G. d**k Memorial Stakes (gr. IIIT, July 14),” added Motion. “It just depends on what I decide to do with her this weekend. We are fortunate in that we have a lot of options with her because she has proven she can do so much. We will take a look at everything and we will decide as we get closer to the weekend.”
Bred in Kentucky by Dapple Broodmares 2004, Pachattack has made a single start this season, and that too was a winning one, when she romped past the Grade 3 Doubledogdare Stakes over Keeneland’s synthetic surface on 20 April, 2012.
The Pulpit mare got the better of Kathmanblu in the 1 1/16 mile event, as her adversary finished a strong second, but Pachattack wrapped up proceedings taking a minute and 43.75 seconds, while La Gran Bailadora finished third on the day.
Third in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic at about 1 1/8 miles to winner, Royal Delta, last fall at Churchill Downs, Pachattack was finding some form at the backend of the 2011 season.
After an eighth place finish in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes, she turned in back-to-back second place finishes starting from the prestigious Grade 1 Personal Ensign to winner, Ask the Moon, and then played second fiddle to, Aruna, in the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes.
