As France get ready to take on Euro 2012 co-hosts Ukraine at the Donbass Arena in Donetsk, all eyes are on star striker Andrei Shevchenko. After attracting a lot of criticism for being too old and too fragile, the former AC Milan star once again proved his
immense importance to the national side by scoring a brace against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 in his country’s opening game of the tournament.
Laurent Blanc is wary of the threat posed by the veteran striker and knows that his defence will have to be constantly alert while marking a player who needs no second invitation.
However, Lloris says that though it is an honour to be playing against Shevchenko, his team should realise that only silencing the striker would not give them three points.
“It is a great pleasure to play against him. He is a former Ballon d’Or winner. He had a distinguished career. Our game is not just a game against Shevchenko. However, we will keep an eye on him because he knows how to disappear.”
Speaking at a press conference in Donetsk ahead of Friday’s game, the French captain spoke a bit about the game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 custodian knows that the game against Ukraine is perhaps more important than the England opener. There is no lack of motivation in the French camp according to the 24-year-old shot-stopper who maintains that every player in the team
is galvanised and prepared to do well for the country.
Lloris feels that France can be a formidable side if they find their balance.
In the first 30 minutes of the game against England, Laurent Blanc’s side struggled but as the game wore on, settled down into a good rhythm and dominated the rest of the match.
Playing under extremely hot conditions can be an energy sapping scenario for players but Lloris knows that his side needs to adapt to it as well.
