  1. Yep - he certainly did - in fact most of the Doctor's companions have been female.

First Doctor: Susan Foreman, Barbara Wright, Vicki, Dorothea (Dodo) Chaplet, Katarina, & Polly.

    Second Doctor: Victoria and Zoe

Third Doctor: Liz Shaw, Jo Grant and Sarah Jane Smith

Fourth Doctor: Sarah Jane Smith, Leela, Romana, Nyssa and Tegan Jovanka

Fifth Doctor: Nyssa, Tegan Jovanka and Peri (Perpugilliam) Brown

Sixth Doctor: Peri Brown and Melanie (Mel) Bush

Seventh Doctor: Mel and Ace (also known as Dorothy)

    Eighth Doctor: Grace

Some of the male companions didn't seem to work so well in the classic series.  The Brigadier isn't really classed as a companion but he's definitely one of the most popular male characters in the classic series.  Jamie was quite a popular companion for the Second Doctor.  Harry Sullivan travelled with the Fourth Doctor - he was introduced as a younger male character in case they ended up with another older Doctor like the First Doctor so that's why after a few episodes he was written out.  Adric travelled with the Fourth and Fifth Doctors and apparently people hated him - I thought he was fine, he was just a kid really - but not very popular with viewers at all - so he got killed off. Then there was Turlough with the Fifth Doctor - personally I couldn't stand him - I thought he was too sly.

  2. Considering the original series ran for over 30 years, the Doctor had 27 or so companions in that time and a majority of them were female.

The first Doctor had Susan, Barbara, Vicki, Katarina, Sara, Dodo and Polly.

The second Doctor also had Polly. Others were Victoria and Zoe.

The third Doctor had Liz, Jo and Sarah-Jane

The forth Doctor also had Sarah-Jane. There was also Leela, Romana I and II, Tegan and Nyssa.

Tegan and Nyssa were also with the fifth Doctor along with Peri.

The sixth Doctor had Peri and Melanie (Mel).

The seventh Doctor had Mel and Ace.

    The eighth Doctor had Grace.

There were about seven male companions. Ian, Steven, Ben, Jamie, Harry, Adric and Turlough.

  3. Yes, he did! Her name was Susan, Barbara, Vicki, Dodo, Katarina, Sara, Polly, Victoria, Zoe, Liz, Jo, Sarah Jane, Leela, Romana, Tegan, Nyssa, Peri, Mel, Ace, and Grace. And that's not including audio (Charley (short for Charlotte) and Lucie and Erimem and Evelyn) and book (Sam, Anji, Compassion, and Trix).

The original series ran for twenty-six years, not including audio and book stuff, and majority of his companions were female.

  4. Sure, loads of 'em.
