Oklahoma State Cowboys’ Justin Blackmon arrested
Oklahoma State Cowboys star wide receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested for driving under the influence on Monday 25 October.
Blackmon was arrested in Texas and was said to have been travelling back to Oklahoma with three other friends after going to the Dallas Cowboys' Monday Night Football game in Arlington. The car was said to have been travelling 90 mph in a 60 mph zone.
The police issued a field sobriety test and it was determined that Blackmon had in fact been drinking. The car was being driven by former Oklahoma State Cowboy and current Dallas Cowboy Dez Bryant. However, because Blackmon is under 21 years of age, he was
charged with a DUI. In Texas if a minor is caught intoxicated in a motor vehicle it is equated to drunk driving.
No one else in the car was arrested and Blackmon posted bond early on Tuesday 26 October.
The arrest could come at a huge price for both Blackmon and the Cowboys, as the NCAA is likely to hand down some form of supplemental discipline, or the wide-out may be suspended by the team until the matter is resolved.
Blackmon and the Cowboys have both been having incredible seasons. The young receiver has recently emerged as a Heisman candidate and although the Auburn Tiger’s Cam Newton seems to be pulling away, Blackmon is likely to get a nomination. However, the youngster’s
recent transgression and the possibility of suspension may have moved him out of contention.
More importantly if Blackmon is deemed ineligible by the NCAA the Cowboys are likely to struggle, as they own the third best passing game in the country in most part thanks to the young receiver.
Blackmon has been spectacular in 2010, hauling in 62 receptions for 1,112 yards and 14 touchdowns in only seven games.
