O’Brien and Commings win golden crowns at the United States Masters Swimming Short Course Nationals

Day two of United States Masters Swimming Short Course Nationals got off to a flying start with the blistering performances of Mathew O’Brien and Ed Moses in the 50m butterfly and 100m breast-stroke respectively, in Mesa, Arizona, on Friday.
Firstly, O’Brien won the Men’s 50m butterfly title with a fabulous time of 22.09 seconds. He broke Michael Shelby’s previous record of 22.16 seconds, set in 2006. On the other hand, Nelson Silva took home the Men’s 200m back-stroke title with an intriguing
time of 1:48.10 minutes. Fascinatingly, he had broken John Keppeler’s previous record of 1:50.28 minutes, set in 1992.
In the Men’s 100m breast-stroke event, Ed Moses snatched the gold medal with a fabulous time of 53.44 seconds. Amazingly, he had improved his ranking by beating Jeff Commings’ previous record of 55.85 seconds, set in 2007. Meanwhile, Jeff Commings grabbed
the golden crown in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke with a remarkable time of 55.12 seconds.
On the other hand, Josh Davis captured the gold medal in the 50m butterfly with a matchless time of 22.26 seconds. In the meantime, Chris Stevenson won the Men’s 200m back-stroke meet with a sterling time of 1:55.04 minutes. Rowdy Gaines nabbed the Men’s
50m freestyle title with an astounding time of 21.36 seconds and broke his own record of 21.38 seconds, set in 2009.
Next, the Men’s 200m back-stroke title was taken over by Tom Barton with a winning time of 2:04.00 minutes. In the Men’s 400m Individual Medley meet, Lawrence Day clinched the gold medal with the fastest time of 4:44.60 minutes and beat Jim Clemmons’s 2010
record of 4:45.65 minutes.
Robert Strand won the Men’s 100m breast-stroke with a remarkable time of 1:07.71 minutes and broke David Gildea’s record of 1:08.19 minutes. Last, but not the least, Bob Miller snared the golden crown in the Men’s 200m back-stroke with a stunning time of
3:03.89 minutes. In the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet, Kelly Harrigan placed first with a sterling time of 2:00.24 minutes.
Charlotte Davis picked up the top seed in the Women’s 400m IM with an outstanding time of 5:20.51 minutes, while Patricia Murphy finished first in the Women’s 50m butterfly in 29.82 seconds. Carolyn Boak won the Women’s 400m Individual Medley with a fascinating
time of 5:49.24 minutes, while Joann Leilich settled first in the Women’s 100m breast-stroke in 1:26.77 minutes.
