http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s stand-in captain, Ross Taylor admitted that the 112-run thrashing at the hands of tournament co-hosts Sri Lanka will dent the confidence of his team. He was hopeful of taking positives from the game ahead of the quarter-finals
of the ICC World Cup 2011.
"The confidence would take http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Dent-c41093 but we still played some good cricket over the last couple of days,” said Taylor in the post match media conference. “We still got to think positively. We have got some days before the quarterfinals and
once we get to know the opponents and we can focus," he further added.
Taylor urged his side to train hard and not to repeat the same mistakes, if they are to make an impact in the knock-out round. He stressed that bowling was the reason behind their defeats to both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and Sri Lanka.
“Against Australia, it was the pace bowling that put us on the backfoot and in this match it was spin,” conceded the 27-year-old. “I don't think we need to dwell too much on it and we have to pick ourselves," he further added.
The New Zealand middle-order batsman, who mauled the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 attack with seven lofty sixes and eight muscular boundaries in his unbeaten 131, as New  Zealand scripted a colossal 110-run win, praised Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara and
Mahela Jayawardene for playing remarkably in yesterday’s game.
However he did commend his bowling line-up for restricting the pre-tournament favourites to 265 despite losing Bennett in the midst of the match with a strained calf. Taylor said that the department in which they were really lacking last
night was their batting, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals, as none of the batsmen could built a settled partnership
Taylor commented that the pitch and dew also played a key role in their poor batting show. According to him, there was a lot more dew than expected, as the wicket was offering inconsistent bounce and the ball kept on skidding under the lights.
When asked about Jayawardene’s controversial catch, Taylor stated that whenever a player takes a catch and feels he has really taken that, he gets aggressive if it is not accepted.
“When you generally think you had the catch you obviously are going to show natural aggression and disappointment,” said Taylor. "At the end of the day, you have the technology and if technology is not right then not use it," he added further.
He went on to say that the regular skipper Daniel Vettori and spearhead pacer Kyle http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mills-c76321 are completely fit and their return in the side during the knock-out stage will boost the morale of players.
