New York Islanders beat Florida Panthers at Nassau Coliseum, 5-1 (fixed headline)
The first game of Monday saw the New York Islanders in action as they hosted the Florida Panthers at the Nassau Coliseum. This was one of the bottom table clashes with both teams looking for
a win so that they could make it into the play-off cut.
The Islanders totally dominated the game and scored twice in each of the first two periods. In the final period, both teams scored a goal apiece and the game ended with the Islanders winning 5-1. Matt Moulson, winger of the Islanders was named the star of
the game for the hat-trick he scored and for the brilliant energy that he had on ice.
The Islanders made a brilliant start to the game which saw them making goal attempts regularly and combining very well together. Right from the start of the proceedings, the Islanders were the dominating force of the game but unfortunately couldn’t find
the back of the net.
The attacks kept on piling as did the plays. However, the Islanders scored in the 8th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Matt Moulson who scored from a brilliant shot that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
The Islanders continued to dominate the game and in doing so they didn’t give the opposing team any space to settle and work. It was just a matter of time as to when the Islanders would score once again. The home team set the home crowd wild as they scored
once again in the 15th minute to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Matt Moulson once from the same position and same shot. The Islanders continued to control the pace of the game and chances kept on coming for them. However, they weren’t able to score any further goals. The period ended with the Islanders
leading 2-0 as they made 16 goal attempts in the period while the Panthers made 3 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams almost even terms of goal attempts made but the Islanders proved to be the more productive of the two teams. The Islanders had the confidence and momentum flowing which enabled them to get past the opposing defence regularly.
The Islanders scored as early as the first minute through Radek Martinek from a brilliant strike during power play. Chances kept on coming for both sides and it was the Islanders who scored through Josh Bailey this time. The goal was scored in the 7th
minute through a superb flick shot.
The period continued to follow the attacking mode but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the Islanders leading 4-0. Both teams made 9 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
The final period was almost similar to the second period as both teams attacked and scored a goal apiece. The Panthers finally got on the scoring sheet as they scored through Mike Santorelli during power play.
However, the Islanders sealed the game with Matt Moulson scoring his hat-trick with a goal in the 18th minute. The period ended with the Islanders winning the game 5-1.
