Okay here's a nasty challenging question!

Name this ancient fiber. It comes from the stem of a plant thats common in Europe and Asia and is still used for weaving in some remote areas of Asia and by craft specialists in Europe. It is not linen or hemp but archaeologists believe some fiber fragments from the Neolithic once thought to be hemp are from this plant. The young leaves can be eaten in salads or cooked.

Can you name this plant?

  1. If it's being mistaken for linen, my first guess would be ramie but it could also be Jute/Hessian.

  2. Papyrus

  3. is it silk or maybe flax ?

  4. How about Hemp?  Plant named Cannibis or Marijuana (spellings is wrong I think).

  5. Bamboo?

  6. You made me miss breakfast on this one.

I'm still gonna have to go with flax because if you can weave it and eat it, flax has to be a possibility.

I also found out that anthropologists think agriculture is the development, primarily,  of the human female!

  7. my guess is jute

    thick and ropey

    used for sandals etc.

i just discovered that clothes made from bamboo

    are popular now

and i swear it softer than cotton

  8. Sisal: the relative of wheat's.

  9. Nettles. They used to made cloth out of it in Neolithic Europe, and you can eat the baby leaves in salad, or cooked like spinach.
