My friend totaled his wife's car and left the scene.......?

He claims he fell asleep but didn't call the police or anything and just abandoned the car someone else spotted it and called the tow truck and police & highway patrol what should of happened to him for leaving his car?

  1. Unless you would like to be charged as "an accessory after the fact", which, I believe, is also a felony, you'd better speak up. Keeping your mouth shut about what he's told you will get YOU in trouble.

    I suspect there's something more to the story than what he's told you, which is why he left the car and ran.

  3. What did he hit? A car? An occupied car? A pole? A guard rail? Did he hurt any one? You just say he totaled his car and took off, nothing more. Was it hit & run? Or did he just crash into a fixed object and leave? Too much missing information here.

    We all have a duty to report accidents when damages are such that a vehicle can not be driven from the scene, or there is serious injury or death. If no one is hurt, and the cars can be driven, it's a non-reportable accident in my State.

    In his case, with what little you told us, it's failure to report the accident and related charges regarding abandoning the vehicle.
