Most of the rugby teams unlikely to be rested before Rugby World Cup 2011
Most of the rugby teams are unlikely to be rested before coming Rugby World Cup. New Zealand is hosting the world showpiece and it will be kicked off on September 9, 2011.
The coaching staffs of different teams have decided to not rest their sides before world cup as it had a very bad experience back in 2007.
New Zealand decided to rest its all 22 players before the previous world championship in France in order to keep its players fresh and ultimately it proved devastating for them as they were knocked out of quarter final stages. The then coach Graham Henry
was the key man to take the decision and it was largely criticised in the end.
Later on, Graham Henry and his assistants Wayne Smith and Steve Hansen could not rebuilt his team for upcoming Webb Ellis Trophy and were nearly claiming their jobs. The rugby supporters were greatly disappointed by the move and they would hardly forget
the incident.
Keeping in view the previous bitter memories all players would not be rested before world cup rather selected ones could side lined according to given situation for the remaining matches of Super Rugby Championship.
Now same is going to be tried by Scotland coach Andy Robinson who has rested his five mainstream players from their club duties. . The head coach has deprived Glasgow Warriors from Alastair Kellicks, Richie Gray and John Barclay whereas Ross Ford and Allan
Jacobson will not be available for Edinburgh for the rest of the Manager League season.
According to the decision of the team management these key five players can train their clubs but they will not be allowed to play for them till world championship.
The Scottish coach announced, “Ross Ford and Allan Jacobsen have had high game time in the previous three years and have played a lot of rugby this season. We feel it is in their best interests to be unavailable for Edinburgh now,”
The coach further said that it was in the best interests of the player to be rested before the crucial event. He gave the detail of rested players: “Richie is being taken out of action for Glasgow. He has had double the game time this year compared to last,
and the intensity of the matches in which he has been playing has also increased. It is important for his development over the next two to three years that we have made the decision we have now.”
The theory of the Scottish coach Andy Robinson contrasts with that of England team that won the 2003 World Cup but amazingly none of the players was rested before or after the championship. Same was the case with South African rugby team that lifted the
trophy of 2007 and its all players participated in the Super Ruby championship.
