Mohammad Asif's jail sentence to end on May 5 - Cricket News Update
Tainted Pakistan pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Amir-c76675 and
skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-Butt-c2418 along with him.
His lawyer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RD-Shah-c2298 Gill, while talking on the completion of his sentence said, “Asif will complete his jail term on May 5 and all formalities have been completed for his release."
However, according to sources it is not clear if Asif will return to Pakistan or will choose to stay in the United Kingdom after coming out of jail.
Apart from the jail sentence, the three players have also been barred from taking part in any sort of cricketing event both nationally and internationally before the completion of their five-year ban.
Talking about the possible return of Asif, a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) official clarified that the pacer would not be allowed to participate in any cricketing event, nor use PCB facilities.
"We have heard Asif is being released this week. Whenever he returns to Pakistan, the terms and conditions of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 ban will remain on him and he will not be allowed to take part in any cricket related activity in Pakistan," he said.
Amir has already finished his six months sentence in youth detention centre in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, but has been kept away from any cricket activities in or outside the country.
The trio were caught taking bribes to deliberately bowl no-balls during Pakistan tour of England in 2010 in a sting operation carried out by now defunct English tabloid “News of the World”, showing their personal manager taking money and ensuring the delivery
of the controversial no-balls.
This evidence was provided to the English police right after the two bowlers bowled the no-balls, after which they were immediately barred from taking part in the remainder of the tournament.
Later, in an inquiry by the ICC they were found guilty of all charges and banned from the sport without hesitation.
Experts predict while it may be the end of the line for Asif and Butt, however, Amir due to his young age can still make an international comeback after the completion of his ban
