Mike Weir rejoins golf while teeing off from AT&T Pebble Beach
Mike Weir will be giving his debut performance at the amazing tournament of AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, starting from Thursday, February 9 to Sunday 12, 2012.
Weir, a 41-year-old Canadian professional golf player, is famous in the region. He is well known for winning 16 professional events in total and will be teeing off on Thursday at the Pebble Beach Golf Links, California.
He is ready to compete against other professional and amateur teams. This will be his first appearance in the current season.
The tournament is being staged by Professional Golf Association Tour of the US.
Canadian golf players have not been able to record many victories. However, he successfully changed the scenario by recording the first Canadian win at the majors. It was The Masters, in 2003, won by him in a play-off mode.
Similarly, the Canadian, who turned professional in 1992, also finished ten times under top-10 list and gained huge respect in America as well.
In 2000, he won another mega title of the WGC-American Express Championship by a two-stroke lead and defeated the world No. 2 Lee Westwood from England.
In July 2011, he had withdrawn from the Canadian Open in the second round, due to a pain in the right elbow. “I don’t know when I’m going to play again,” Weir said sadly.
He went through a surgery in August and was successful. Now Weir has recovered from the injury.
He will be rejoining the game after six months, at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
His past career at Pebble Beach is impressing. He played 13 total events here and finished seven times under top 10. He is not confident about his performance after a six-month lay-off.
“I don’t know if it will ever be 100 per cent,” Weir said.
On the other hand, he has not grabbed a win since 2007. Nevertheless, he is happy to be back on the course with the hope to improve his game, while playing with leading players of the world.
After the tournament, he will be playing several PGA Tour events. His next desire is to be at the European Tour after playing The Masters in April.
“I think it will be interesting and a wonderful chance to play on the European Tour and see different parts of the world,” Weir said.
He went on to say, “Of course, it would also be nice to play well at the start of the PGA Tour and then be able to choose when and where I tee it up”.
